This works well and fits with the writing theme of this being a snap shot from history, there is no true start, leading all the way to the final, final climax of this era of history in The Crippled God. There is so much happening that it can be a little disorientating in the beginning, Gardens of the Moon, literally drops you right in the middle of the story at the Siege of Pale - no buildup - just straight in. It is without a doubt the greatest fantasy series I have ever read, the world is absolutely bursting with detail that all ties together so very well. I recently finished all 10 books in the 'Malazan Book of the Fallen' series written by Stephen Erikson. First time posting - just wanted to share.
